This post is all about David. At the beginning of May we had a couple of busy weekends. First David participated in a music festival with kids from his school and across the Northeast at UMASS Lowell. He learned songs, dance, and music. Then they put on a concert for the parents .I was amazed they learned it all in a day. Then the following weekend we had an outing with the cub scouts. It was called Webelos Woods. That was all kinds of activities gearing the boys towards Boy Scouts(which he wants to do). He has one more year as a cub scout then it is off to the big times. They did things like an arts and crafts project,bb gun shooting, scavenger hunt, tug of war, an obstacle course type thing in one of those big inflatable things, and that was only before lunch. During lunch they had an animal show where you could go and pet snakes, turtles, and even a gillamonster Then after lunch they had a rocket launch, stories about Indians, and a game where they had to do something as a team. They also learned the safety of building a fire and how to make sure that it is out. We all had a very good day and I hope the boys really learned something from it. Then on the following Wednesday I had the day off from work so I kept David home from school and we went in to Boston to a place called 5wits. It is a maze where you go in rooms and solve problems on a search for the Pharoah. We had a good time except for the fact that it took us 2 hours to get there by train and bus. When we were done we went looking for someplace to eat and since we were just down the street from Fenway Park we stopped in at one of the places in that area.
This is amazing two posts in one month. If you read my profile it says that I am a mother of a 9 yr old, well that is not true anymore. I am now the mother of a 10 yr old. I didn't have a birthday party for him instead we just had cake at home. But seeing as he turned 10 I figured I needed to play a joke on him, so I bought those magic candles that relight. We could actually send smoke signals there was so much smoke from them. But he enjoyed it. Then it was time for opening presents. He wanted a Gamecube so I bought him one. Doesn't he look so happy? Oh yeah I forgot his birthday was April17th.
Well it has been a while. Last sat my son and I went to the Eagle Festival in Newburyport with the cub scouts. It is where you can go to different places on the Merrimack River and see bald eagles in the wild. It really is interesting. They also do shows at City Hall and that is where I took this. This is Noah. He has a damaged eye and wing so he can't be put back out in the wild. Then on Thursday night as most of you know we had a full lunar eclipse and I went out back and took these. This first one was taken at 8:55, the second one was taken 1/2 hour later and the third 1/2 after that. Then it was getting to cold for me to go back out. Of course if I had a coat on it probably would have been fine. Now on to knitting news. I joined a swap with a small group of women that my sister knits with. It is called the Silly Sock Swap. Well I started my sock and it was going slow at first. I finished the heel and just did not like the way it was coming out. I was using Tofutsies in a black/white colorway. At first I thought it was the way I was knitting but when my sister looked at it it wasn't me it was actually the yarn. What was happening was it was very loose. It seems that when they wound it they didn't wind it tight enough. So back to the drawing board for my silly sock swap. Now mind you these need to be done by April 1st and I don' t knit all that fast. So I looked through my sisters knitting books and found one I really liked. It is called Socks of Kindness and I am using JoJoland Melody in a purple/maroon colorway. It is going alot faster. I started it last sat and I am already on the heel but now I am at a stand still because it calls for a short row heel and my sister went to SPA this weekend so I have put it to sleep for the weekend. I also finished one sock that I am making for my sister. It was supposed to be for Christmas but as long as I get it done she is ok with it. This is Soft Sea Wool and a basic 4x4 rib.The other sock that I finished before Christmas was one I made for my mother. That is made with Alpaca and I used a Basket weave pattern. I gave her the one sock and I am glad I didn't make both because it is a little small for her so I will be undoing and resizing it. The only socks that I did finish in time for Christmas were my sil's. Those are made with Knit Picks firefighter with a basic 4x4 rib just like my sisters.
As some of you are aware of there was a fuel tanker that overturned and exploded yesterday morning in Everett MA. Well I just found out through my sister Debbi that my sil's niece and her boyfriend and family were one of the houses affected by this disaster. This is her niece Laura. What my sister and I are asking is if there is anyone out there willing to knit up some 9x9 squares so that we can show Laura and Chris that people care. If you can that would be very much appreciated. I know alot of you have holiday knitting to do but anything would help. If you are willing to help you can send them to us by Jan 5. Then my sister and I will put them together. I want to thank everybody in advance. Laura is also the niece of a former employer of mine. If you email me at firstname.lastname@example.org I will send you my mailing address.
This was a week for presents in the mail for me. First off on Monday I received a package from a swap that I did on swap-bot. The theme of the swap was Knit Flicks so obviously it had to do with movies and knitting. This is what I got. You can't see it very good but it is two skeins of Lorna Lace in colorway Pin Stripes, the movie The Firm, a pattern for simple socks, some pretty blue stitch markers, and some spree candies. Then on Wednesday I received my k1t2 package from Nicol W. It was full of wonderful things. There was a trivet shaped like a teapot with the word TEA on it, a tea for one set, a tea ball, a candle, two dishcloths, a tin of Harney and Sons African Autumn tea, and two skeins of Noro Silk Garden Lite. I feel like such a spoiled child.
Look at my beautiful sock. I hand dyed the yarn and then I used the Lacy Mock Cable Pattern by Island of Misfit Patterns . Aren't they purrttyy!!! I love them so much. I am about 1/3 done on the second one.
I got my Fall into Autumn Dishcloth Swap on Saturday. It was from Nicole. She sent me so many wonderful things. A pretty blue dishcloth, Lion Brand cotton, 2nd Time around cotton(I was told that it is recycled), a stitch holder, a candle, a cute pad and pen with a sheep on it, some pumpkin shaped peeps, pumpkin pop rocks( I will be giving those to my son), a pumpkin face that you decorate a balloon with, a little booklet with different dishcloth patterns, two bookmarks from the ASPCA,dove body wash, a soap, a needle inventory card, and a cute card with a dog on it. If I forgot anything here are pictures. THANK YOU SO MUCH NICOLE!!!! I LOOOOVE EVERYTHING!!!
On Saturday I went up to NH where Debbi and Mary have a trailer. My sister had a yarn dying party. It was so much fun to be able to paint on the yarn. There is all different ways of doing it(which I didn't know). Here are some pictures that I took. That wasn't even all of the dyes. When Julie came up she had a lot more. It was so amazing to see the yarn come to color. As soon as Debbi posts on her site you will be able to see alot more pictures(as my batteries died on my camera). Tonight my son starts cub scouts again and I have decided not to be the leader this year. I have been his leader for the last two years, but this year I am going to be one of the parents. Now here is my topic of the week for the Autumn Dishcloth swap: Autumn has now officially begun here in the States!! What is your favorite thing about Autumn/Fall? Why? My favorite thing about Autumn is the color of the leaves and the briskness in the air(unless of course we have an Indian summer). I have always enjoyed going apple picking. I love the smell of homemade applesauce cooking.
As I told you in my last post Debbi and Mary surprised me with tickets to go see Barry Manilow Sunday night. I have to tell you even though it was up in the heavens, it was sooooo exciting to be there and hear him in person. I absolutely loved it, and my sister had a good time as well. That is me on the left and Debbi on the right.Don't we look like we are having a good time. I tried to get some pictures of Barry but they didn't come out as well as I was hoping. But at least I got to see him. In knitting news I finally finished my first sock of my second pair and here it is. I think I did an awesome job on this and it seemed to take forever to do. But it is done and now I need to start on the other one this weekend. If you go and read my sisters blog http://www.adayinthelifeofdebbi.typepad.com/ you will see how busy the postlady has been coming to our house. Well yesterday it was my turn for surprises in the mail. I got my swap from swap-bot. It was from Suzie at http://purlygates.blogspot.com/. It is this awesome yarn called Trekking and a beautiful pattern. You should go check her site out she is doing a Knit With Love. What it is, is she is looking for knitted hats to give to the elderly in nursing homes. She is working with the Little Brothers of San Francisco. Oh ya this is what see sent me.I can't wait to get started on these. Now for my Fall Into Autumn topic of the week. Topic Now that in some geographic locations the weather is starting to turn cooler, do you change the type of yarn(s) you knit/crochet with? If so, what do you now knit/crochet with instead and why? If not, why do you not switch and what do you knit/crochet with? Well seeing as I just started knitting again I probably won't change yarns because I like making socks. I may do some other things but basically stick with socks. Ok that is all until next time Happy Knitting!!!!
On Thursday my sister Debbi calls me from work and asks what I am doing on Sunday night. I say "nothing other than getting David ready for school for the next day". She tells me that I need to be dressed and ready to go out with her. I was like" where are we going". She wouldn't tell me.She says she needs to call Mary and then she will call me back. So I wait, when she finally calls back she tells me she will be home from camp around 6:00 and I am to be ready. We will be going in the car, park at BunkerHill College Then I remember the date for Sunday and I start saying to her " Don't tell me you got me tickets" ? She was like "Tickets to what"? I said" I know what day it is, did you get tickets"? She said "Not yet but will be getting them when she goes to Kats after work". I was yelling"Oh my god I can't believe it I am going to see Barry Manilow" at TD Banknorth. So this is my early Christmas/birthday(4 days after ) present. I LOVE BARRY MANILOW!!!!! I am sooooooo excited. I have been listening to him ever since. One Christmas my mother got me one of his cds and on the tag she put To Cheryl Love Barry. David and I used to dance around the house listening to him. Well looking through different blogs again I came across this http://teatimeramblings.blogspot.com You should go check it out.
