The beginning of May the Boy Scouts had a weekend camping trip. We had bought David a 2 man tent that he practiced sleeping in at the house. This was his first camping trip without his dad. So his mom and Mary packed him up, and off he went. He learned how to sharpen a hatchet, do dishes the camp way, hiked, and participated in other fun activities. Apparently he enjoyed himself so much that he is planning on going with them for the week long trip this summer. His only request, a bigger tent so that he can stand up in it. HAHAHA. Little does he know, most single person tents are not made for you to stand up in, not even when you are only 11. I think that he will have to learn to change his clothes sitting down just like the rest of us.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to 2 whole days off, tomorrow my plans include knitting and Sunday, I want to knit!
On Sunday I went to camp for the day. The black flies were terrible though so we went home a little earlier than normal. We stopped and had dinner and afterwards we took the long way home. On our ride down Rte 4 in Nottingham, NH we noticed some large black birds in one of the trees so we stopped to take a closer look. Turkey Buzzards – 3 of them. They were really cool and I was finally able to identify the bird that the kids and I saw in Methuen the morning of my wedding. A Turkey Buzzard. Glad I don’t believe in omens (not much anyway).
This past weekend was the very first of many sheep and wool festivals. This was the CT Sheep and Wool. It was their 100th anniversary. It is not a huge festival but a very neat one, nevertheless. My mom, Cheryl and I headed out on Saturday around 7:30 and arrived around 9:30, parked and walked around. We met up with Lynne and Lucia and chatted and shopped with them for a bit. I want to learn how to Navajo ply so we went to a demo where Lucia took a turn at it.
I purchased some Unicorn Scour to clean the California Red fleece that Lynne, Lucia and I split, a mystery bump from Still River Mill and some bunny and alpaca roving. My mom bought some beautiful sock yarn and a very handsome ink drawing of a barn.
Of course there were animals, alpacas, llamas and sheep. This is Wild Bill Cody, a very handsome llama that was afraid of a child in a stroller. A great time was had by all.
The 17th was my nephew’s birthday. He is a boy scout and will be going this coming weekend, camping with them to be able to earn badges. So what to get a boy scout? How about a tent, a small jr. dome tent. He also needed to learn how to put it up so since it was raining out we put it up in the living room. He had a friend over and the two of them slept together in the tent. But before they could get in there to sleep Doug needed to check it out. He apparently deemed it suitable for the boys to sleep in. The boys had a great time – snuggled down in their sleeping bags. I hope he enjoys it as much in the woods as he did in the living room.
These are the socks that I designed and knit for Kathy for our Spring Swap. They are created in mystery yarn from my mom's stash and because Kathy is always telling me how big her feet are I made the toes a different color. I am proud to say that this pattern is available to purchase at The Yarn and Fiber Company. It is a very easy pattern to memorize but ends up looking more complicated than it is. It is an asymeterical lace panel that also travels down the heel for clog or birk wearing. (Kathy is a huge birky wearing fan). I wanted you to be able to see the pattern. If you decide to pick up a pattern I hope you enjoy knitting it and if you run into any trouble feel free to drop me a line and I will give you some help.
