This is DD - that is the scarf that she requested. It is finished and apparently long enough for her to wear. It is my first knit from something that I spun project and I love it. It is quite soft and squishy. In the upcoming weeks there will be some Interesting Images on the blog. At least once a week I will have a guest photographer - Kelsie. She has discovered that she likes to take the camera with her on walks. Last summer she spent a lot of time taking pictures of mushrooms, now it is interesting shapes, signs, etc around our home town. So tomorrow will be the first installment of INTERESTING IMAGES by Kelsie. Look for them and if you like them, please do comment as I am sure that Kelsie would love to hear what you think.

On Saturday I was fortunate enough to go to the Conn. Sheep and Wool festival, the first of the season. Julie and Lucia and I headed out at 7 a.m and arrived promptly at 9 a.m. (had to stop for coffee, thanks Julie) where Julie and I made a beeline to the Red Barn where there were going to be demos of skirting of fleeces (apparently something I need to learn PDQ) and to look at the fleeces that the locals had for sale. They were still setting up, but we got a good look around and asked about the demo and were told it would be later in the day. SO we went looking for other stuff - my we did find it. First some sheep, dogs and lots of running and whistling. This little guy was looking kinda happy that he was done running away from the dogs so he smiled for the camera. Here are some other things we got to see and touch. Conn S&W I had a great time and hope to be able to go back next year.

Several people have heard the story of the 37 fleeces in my garage so I thought that I would provide photographic proof of said fleeces. If you look very closely in this photo you can see some fleece escaping from the bag. We have robins again this year and I think she used some to line her next. There is more than enough to go around.

Last week I took the kids for the annual check up. They are 16 now, getting close to the age when they will no longer be going to their pediatrician. Although to look at my 5'8" guy, you would never know that he was only 2 years away from adulthood. We had a long appointment but both kids are healthy, a little sore from the 3 for him and 4 for her shots that happened but all set for at least another year.
When we went Kelsie asked to bring the camera as she wanted to take these photos for her American Sign Language class. The nurse sure looked at her funny when she announced she was going to the bathroom and could she have the camera. Hope your family is healthy and happy as well.

My DD asked for a scarf from the Pink Lemonade roving that she picked out. And Julie commented that I was teasing her with words about knitting but no pictures, so here it is. It is a simple 2x2 rib, 16 stitches, done on size 8's. Now I probably could have gone up a couple of sizes but I wanted it to be squishy and it is. There are places where it is a solid stripe of color but for the most part it is various colors in the same row. It is very pretty - some spots are over spun - some under spun, but Winnie and I are works in progress so I will take this.

A Camping We Will Go

This weekend was a beauty!  Just the right weather to go to camp.  Yup that's right, not even May 1st and we were up at camp on Saturday late afternoon and stayed until late last night.  It was great.  A little breezy, and still a bit of snow on the ground (only in the shade) but all and all a great time.  I knit my handspun and walked around just seeing the camp.  Kathy, Mary and I did take a road trip about an hour away to the north west to pick up some fleeces that a very nice man and his very nice great dane gave us.  Did I say some fleeces, I meant lots of fleeces, lots and lots of fleeces.  Enough bags of fleeces to fill Kathy's Toyota Land Rover (seats 8 comfortably).  Now to figure out what I am going to do with them.  (Sorry no pics, forgot camera).  Have a great and wonderful Marathon Monday!!!

Spinning 101

A while ago I told you all that I got a wheel (Winnie) and that I had gone spinning with Julie to the Westford Spinners, well we went again last Tuesday. It was lots of fun and I started spinning the roving that my DD picked out - a shade called Pink Lemonade - that she would like me to make her a scarf with. So now that the madness of the Silly Sock Swap is over, Winnie was calling me. Last night I sat and spun up the rest of 4oz of roving into two bobbins. I think it came out much more evenly then before. Also, by spinning longer sections at a time, my joins are fewer and there for less messy. Let me know what you think. Oh ya, the basket is my keeper of all things spinning. It came with Winnie and has my lazy Kate, and extra bobbins in it. (It also works to keep my fiber fiends (the cats) out of my roving).

Last night was the big reveal at Julie's house for the sock swap that our little knitting group had. Boy was it fun. We had Carrie and Madame Purl on the phones, we opened our gifts according to birthday and we had some yummy burgers, rice, broccoli salad and homemade marshmellow smoores. I got great green socks from Madame Purl that fit perfectly. She also included some lovely roving in a beautiful gray and some chocolate and other goodies. Thank you Mme. everything was great! They are finally finished. These were socks for a friend for a swap that we are doing and I have finished them....YEAHHHHHHH. They were a fun knit even if I did read the pattern wrong. I thought it was a two row repeat....no... 1/2 through the 2nd sock when I was getting ready to do the heel flap I noticed that the 3rd row was NOT the same as the 1st row as I thought it was it was different....but hey they are great looking and I am pleased and I hope that my pal will be too.

We are getting together on Sunday night and doing our swap so I hope to have photos on Monday of the loot, swag, I mean gifts that we receive.
