One of the women who works near me is expecting her third child the end of this month. Now by the time you have 2 and are on your third, most everything is a hand me down. So since I had some baby color yarn, it is a little girl, and I wanted to practice making this hat and the pom pom - I cast it on on Monday and after a couple of false starts, finished it up last night. It calls for you to put the ear flaps first but I found it easier to do them after. I also like my decreases better then my increases so it worked out well. Hope she likes it.
These are the 8 finished projects that I have photos of. I also completed a vest for a friend's grandson, crocheted a sweater that I need to send to a friend, started and worked on some socks that aren't completed yet and did do some spinning (not as much as I would have liked). I was lucky enough to go to SPA, Conn Sheep and Wool, NH Sheep and Wool and Stitches East. It has been a good year for fiber. Hopefully in 2010, I can keep up with projects, finish a pattern I am writing and attend some more super fibery places. Hope everyone has a great year and you accomplish everything you want and then some.
This is the sweater that I knit for Olivia, Mary's grand niece - Melanie's daughter. I wanted something different and this was just that. The arms and top of the sweater are knit long ways and then you pick up stitches along the bottom of it and knit the body. I am a slow knitter but this didn't take me too long to do it. It is knit in Cascade 220 superwash in a demin color with Cascade 220 superwash in an off white as accent. The shoulders each have 3 little white rose buttons to keep it closed. The accent is not part of the pattern, I put a crocheted shell edging on the bottom to dress it up a little and make sure that no one would think she was a little boy. Hope it fits and she likes it. I am not even sure that she has seen it yet but if I don't blog now, I won't remember. And if you haven't checked out patternfish, this is a good opportunity to do just that. You won't find any free patterns but you will find some cool ones. Enjoy.
Don't look now but there is knitting going on. Actually I have been doing quite a bit of knitting. I just keep forgetting to take pictures of it. This is a project that I finished this summer - stole back from Mel and Olivia and just realized I hadn't posted it. Very cute hat, made for a two year old - so doesn't fit just yet but fun to do, fun to pratice a little bit of color work and extremely easy. Could be for a girl or boy, just remove the flower on top.
I like to knit rolled brimmed hats. And babies look good in rolled brimmed hats. You can use up small amounts of yarn and still get a nice looking project. Olivia, I imagine, will be receiving many rolled brimmed hats.
These are the socks that I designed and knit for Kathy for our Spring Swap. They are created in mystery yarn from my mom's stash and because Kathy is always telling me how big her feet are I made the toes a different color. I am proud to say that this pattern is available to purchase at The Yarn and Fiber Company. It is a very easy pattern to memorize but ends up looking more complicated than it is. It is an asymeterical lace panel that also travels down the heel for clog or birk wearing. (Kathy is a huge birky wearing fan). I wanted you to be able to see the pattern. If you decide to pick up a pattern I hope you enjoy knitting it and if you run into any trouble feel free to drop me a line and I will give you some help.
OK – the waiting is killing me.Mary’s niece WAS due to have her baby on Friday of last week – the 20th.As of today at 3:00 she is still keeping that baby all to herself.I am sure that she is uncomfortable but apparently Olivia already has a mind of her own (like all the Houlihan women) and has decided that she will arrive when she is damn good and ready.Maybe she needs to finish a scrabble game with her Gramma (my m-i-l, Fran) and it is going slower than she expected. Now I hope she waits until late on Friday to make her appearance since I need to work tonight and tomorrow night.Well I guess we will have to look at some baby knitting to pass the time. Here is a second sweater I made her.
When I went looking for a car 6 years ago the one thing I said was that I didn't want a red car. I looked around, and guess what I found? A red car. Now most of you will think it is funny but this is the first car that I have owned that was all mine, no one elses. I paid for it, I drove it, I fixed it and unfortunately someone else killed it. She was a good car, she got me where I needed to go, like to pick up Mary last year during the blizzard with no problem what so ever, got me places in a hurry if I needed to be there - like 85 mph up 93 to the hospital to help my sister with stitches to David's head, and took me to places I liked to go, like camp and knitting on Sunday's and spinning. I will miss my little red car - I am sorry to see her go.
Yes it is....it is knitting. A finished knitting project. I can't believe it. Actually it has been finished for a while but I couldn't post it because the reciepient reads the blog and I didn't want her to see it. Now it is done, and gifted so here it is. This pattern was easy to do, easy to memorize and even easy to change yarns and sizes, etc. This is Lace Panel Pullover from Nashua Handknits Spring and Summer 2008 booklet Blossom. It was done in JoJo Land Melody - Superwash. LOVE IT. This is for our new grand niece Olivia. Hope she likes wearing it.
Last weekend as you know, we attended SPA.There were lots and lots of yummy fiber, yarn, goodies, some spinning wheels, patterns and books.I actually purchased one cone yarn but lots of fiber, lots and lots of fiber. Now not all of it was for me, well most of it was for me, but some was for Mary’s swap pal, my swap pal, my sister’s swap pal also received something.I bought some yarn for my mom and my sister and Mary bought some yarn.
I bought some black Icelandic lamb roving, some smokey gray bamboo roving, some tencel/merino roving from Spunky Eceltic spinning, a gray and cranberry roll and some other items that were just too pretty to leave behind. Now to just decide what all of this should be.Hmmmmmmm that will have to wait, I still have to finish my swap pal’s socks. Then – more spinning.
